A Story in Pictures: Lantern Bearing

Lantern Bearing is a time-honored Sweet Briar tradition in which the senior class, dressed in their formal senior robes, process four times around the Quadrangle before sitting on the senior steps. They are each joined in the procession by an underclasswoman (or two), dressed in white, who carries a lantern in the senior’s honor.

This year, participants may have noticed Sweet Briar Director of Network Services Aaron Mahler taking photographs of the event. In addition to regular camera shots, Mahler shot a six-shot panoramic view of the event. To view this spectacular image in its intended format, visit http://www.halfpress.com/archives/2007/04/_lantern_bearin.html. The actual shots are printed below, along with several other photographs that Mahler took during the ceremony.
