Tenacious Alumna of the Month: Norah Smith
By Emily Clifton ’08
STAFF WRITER

The Spotlighted Alum for September 2006 is Norah Smith, a Sweet Briar graduate who is now the Vice President of Real Estate for Whole Foods. She is responsible for securing new locations for Whole Foods across the country. Whole Foods is a natural and organic foods market.

Norah double-majored in English and History while she was at Sweet Briar. She believes that the written and verbal communication skills that she received by majoring in history and minoring in English certainly gave her an "edge" in the job market.

Norah is a member of the new business advisory committee that kicked off last year. She hopes to mentor students that are interested in pursuing careers in commercial real estate.

In her personal and professional life, Norah is very satisfied. She wants Sweet Briar women to take home the message that we should be confident and tenacious, certainly virtues emphasized regularly on this campus.

She also advises us to take our health seriously. According to Norah, it “gives us strength which is projected both inside and out.” Hopefully students will take her advice.

If you are interested in contacting Norah with regards to mentorship, please visit the Alumnae House for more information or see Career Services.
