Art After Hours
By Alicia Gorman
STAFF WRITER

As one of three mini exhibits taking place in the Art Show at the Florence Elston Inn conference center beginning May 11th, the Art After Hours group will feature some familiar faces from Sweet Briar College.

Art After Hours is made up of people who are art enthusiasts, but are not professional artists.

Jennifer Crispen, Associate Professor of the Athletic Department and an exhibitor in the group Art After Hours, explains that the artists in the group practice art out of enjoyment and as an end-of-the-day activity.

“They rely on art for sanity,” Crispen said.

The Art After Hours exhibit will feature: Beth Huus, the Varsity Volleyball Coach who works with ceramics; Laura Staman, Director of the Outdoors Programs, is involved with the art of mixed media; Nancy McDearmon, Registraral Assistant, will display her paintings; Riding Director Shelby French with her watercolor paintings; Director of Network Services, Aaron Mahler, who will display his photography; Olga Rigg, Bookkeeper and Accounts Payable Manager at the Book Shop, is also a water color painter; and Crispen who is a water color painter as well.

Each exhibitor will have 2 to 3 works of art to display.

The art show will also feature: The Blue Table Society, a group of Lynchburg and Amherst artists; and each member of the Art Department of Sweet Briar College.

The location for the exhibits will be in the lobby of the Florence Elston Inn conference center beginning May 11th, and continuing until December 15, 2006.

The opening reception for the show will be held on Thursday, May 11th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm hosted by the Sweet Briar Art Gallery, complimentary food and beverage will be served.
